According to the EPA "The DfE allows use of the logo only when a product is best in its class."

Osprey Biotechnics has partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in developing many of its products under the Design for the Environment (DfE) program.

The EPA's Design for the Environment program parallels worldwide interest in environmental safety and sustainability. The program's purpose is to help identify and develop environmentally safer products.

Once a product passes the specification of the DfE, the EPA allows the display of the EPA Design for the Environment logo on the product. According to the EPA, this logo "allows customers to quickly identify and choose products that can help protect the environment and are safer for families."

In order to pass EPA DfE requirements, a product must undergo a rigorous review by the EPA DfE scientific review team. This team carefully screens each ingredient in the product for any potential human health and environmental effects. The team reviews not only the ingredient, but also its chemical structure to see how it could impact the environment and people.

Only products that are made of the safest possible ingredients are eligible for approval. According to the EPA, "the DfE allows use of the logo only when a product is best in its class."

Since 2003, Osprey's products have had DfE recognition. Osprey Biotechnics has products recognized by the DfE program in the following classes: Bioremediator, Drain Maintainer, Grease Trap/Lift Station Maintainer, Septic System Treatment, Vehicle/Parts Washer Additive, Bilge Maintainer, Holding Tank Treatment, and Wastewater Innoculant. Under certain requirements, Osprey's DfE products are available for private label programs.

EPA/DfE expresses its judgment and professional opinion only as to the environmental and human health characteristics of the product, based on currently available information and scientific understanding."
